[Sonia Denis] Is The Genre

How a childhood love of acting guided Sonia Denis away from the lucrative world of coding and onto a roller coaster of entertainment, including standup, TV writing and acting in Marvel’s ‘Ironheart.’

Tim Barnes chats with comedian, actor and writer Sonia Denis about how she navigates the choppy waters of entertainment and learned to balance her comedic pursuits with her day-to-day-life.

Sonia Denis is a New York-based comedian set to appear in the upcoming MARVEL series Ironheart on Disney+. She was named one of Vulture's Comics to Watch and is an Emmy-nominated writer whose work has been featured on HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show, The New Yorker, and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency.

Sonia co-starred in the Emmy-nominated web series Brown Girls and has also appeared on Adult Swim’s BIRDGIRL, HBO’s High Maintenance, and Netflix’s Bojack Horseman. Her standup was featured on The New Negroes on Comedy Central.
