Five Jokes: 8-1-2023
Misbehaving Chat Bots, Twitter's 'X' Comes Down, Gatherers Were Hunters Too, Barbie Memes Gone Wrong, & Fake Freckles!
Hey! It’s Tuesday, I can’t stop thinking about the 11-year-old boy who caught a fish with 'human-like teeth,’ and I’ve just finished writing Five (human-like) Jokes!
Y’all hear about this?..
Researchers found a simple way to make ChatGPT, Bard, and other chatbots misbehave, proving that AI is hard to tame. In related news: Tech companies are finally eager to hire Black employees as they scramble to write code that says, “Don’t make me get my belt!”
Twitter's 'X' sign has been taken down in San Francisco after neighbors filed 24 complaints. The ‘X’ now sits comfortably in what Elon Musk calls “My Personal Vault of Elaborate Mistakes” — which, unfortunately, is just Earth.
Anthropologists have found that in cultures where hunting was the most important means of finding food, women took an active role 100 percent of the time. In other words, the phrase “Slay, girl, slay!” goes back way further than you think.
Warner Bros. has issued an apology after one of its Barbie accounts replied with humorous comments to “Barbenheimer” memes using images of atomic explosions. In a surprise twist, Japan expressed condolences after learning that most of the Americans posting those memes were educated in Florida.
Finally…
People are now paying for fake freckles. But if you ask any of them why, they just smile and say “connect the dots.”

A JOKE FROM THE VAULT!
I joked yesterday about Subway giving free sandwiches for life to the person who legally changes their name to “Subway,” and it reminded me of this Uncertain Life comic I wrote (with illustrations by Grant Lindahl)!

R.I.P. Paul Reubens
Paul Reubens’ impact on comedy is undeniable. And I say that as someone who always knew who he was, but unfortunately never really engaged with is work. It’s a sign of a great artist that despite this, I can sense his influence on so many of my friends in the fields of standup, inprov, and sketch. He had a beautifully absurd soul, and I hope he’s finding peace on his next big adventure.
